ENCRYPTION was founded as CRYPTIC in february 1995 by Christian, Manfred, Norbert, Johannes and Oliver. The band comes from Dachsbach, a little village with ca. 1000 inhabitants; Dachsbach is located in middle Franconia (this is a part of bavaria), approximately in the middle of a line between Würzburg and Nuremberg (Dachsbach is ca. 50 km away from Nuremberg).

Only Christian and Oliver had been able to gather some band-experience before; they played in more or less unkown coverbands that didn't have to do very much with Heavy Metal. Christian and Manfred were friends already long before ENCRYPTION formed, and as Manfred lived near the rehearsal-room, he often visited the rehearsals of Christian's coverband. In the breaks, the two jammed songs from Metallica or Sepultura, and they soon realized that they complemented one another very good. Of course, both had at once the idea to form a band of their own, a band where they could play their favourite style of music: Heavy Metal! But at this time (ca. 1992/1993) they hadn't a location to rehearse and didn't know enough musicians who wanted to play Heavy Metal. So for some time there was only the idea, far from realization.

In 1994, Christian left his coverband in order to finally carry out the idea of a Heavy Metal band together with Manfred. In the summer of 94, their "project" took first shapes: Christian's parents agreed to use their cellar as a rehearsal-room. Thus, Christian and Manfred met in the 94 summer vacations (along with a drummer and a third guitar player) to show the neighbours who kicks ass! But from the very beginning, there were a lot of problems; the drummer just never (or nearly never) appeared, and Christian had to play the drums. Things also didn't  go very well with the third guitar player, and so the project came to an end quite soon. Norbert (he went in the same class as Christian and wanted to become the singer from the very beginning) was told that a real band could only be formed as soon as a good bass player and a fit drummer would be found. So, during the following time, only Christian and Manfred did random rehearsals.

At the end of 1994, Christian's brother Johannes decided to join the (planned) band. He played the drums for quite a while, but he didn't have much experience with double-bass drumming. Surprisingly, he managed to play songs like Slayer's "South Of Heaven" after  two - three weeks. Finally, we had success in convincing Oliver, who went also in the same class as Christian. He left his old coverband, and in ending december/beginning january the first serious rehearsal-sessions took place. In february 1995 we decided to name the band CRYPTIC.
